House cleaning

Do you need to be home during a cleaning?

Short answer

No. Most Dallas customers are at work. Access is arranged once — a key, a lockbox, a garage or gate code, a smart-lock guest code, or leasing office authorization — and used the same way every visit. Being present for the first visit is useful, but not required after that.

This is one of the most common questions before a first booking, and the short answer is no. What matters is that access is set up properly once, rather than negotiated every visit.

Access options, and which works best where

MethodBest forNotes
Smart-lock guest codeAny property with one fittedThe cleanest option — you can revoke it at any time and you see when it was used
Garage or gate codeHouses and gated communitiesRecorded once and used the same way every visit
LockboxHouses without smart locksSimple and reliable. Place it somewhere not visible from the street
Key held on fileLong-term recurring customersTagged by reference rather than by address, and returned whenever you ask
Leasing office releaseApartment communitiesNeeds your written authorization with the office before the first visit

What to tell us alongside the access method

  • Alarm code and which door disarms it, if there is a system
  • Which entrance to use, particularly where a rear or garage door is the practical one
  • Where visitor parking is, in apartment and condo buildings
  • Pets in the property and where they will be
  • Any room that should not be entered
  • Where to leave the key or how to secure the property on the way out

When being there is genuinely worth it

The first visit

Ten minutes walking the property and pointing out priorities, products and anything original saves a year of small corrections.

A first deep clean

The end-of-visit walkthrough is more useful when you can see the result and raise anything on the spot.

Move-out cleans

Worth being there at the end so you can photograph the property before handing over the keys.

Working from home during a visit

This is common and entirely workable. Tell us which room you will be in and the team sequences around it, cleaning that room at the end. If you have calls, say roughly when — vacuuming is the only genuinely loud part and it can be moved.

Security, practically

Cleaners are vetted and background checked before a first visit, and Hygiene Maids of Dallas is bonded and insured. Keys held on file are tagged by reference rather than address. If you would rather not leave a key at all, a smart-lock guest code gives you access control you can revoke yourself. More on bonding and insurance.

Related questions

What if I want to be home every visit?

That is completely fine, and some customers prefer it. It makes no difference to how the visit runs, beyond needing to sequence around whichever room you are in.

Will you lock up when you leave?

Yes, following whatever instruction you set — relock and return the key to the lockbox, reset the alarm, close the garage. It is recorded with your access details.

Can I give you a code and change it later?

Yes. Smart-lock guest codes are the easiest arrangement precisely because you keep control of them.

What happens if you cannot get in?

We call you first. If we cannot reach you, the visit cannot go ahead — which is why settling access properly once matters more than any other setup step.
