The honest answer is a range, because two houses of the same size can differ by hours. Here are working ranges and, more usefully, the things that decide where in the range a particular house lands.
Working ranges
| Home | Standard clean | First deep clean |
|---|---|---|
| Studio or 1 bed / 1 bath | 1.5 to 2.5 hours | 3 to 4 hours |
| 2 bed / 2 bath | 2 to 3 hours | 4 to 5 hours |
| 3 bed / 2 bath | 3 to 4 hours | 5 to 7 hours |
| 4 bed / 3 bath | 4 to 5 hours | 7 to 9 hours |
| 5+ bed, 4+ bath | Scheduled with a team | Quoted after understanding the layout |
These are working ranges for planning, not a guarantee. If a house is going to fall outside them, we would rather say so at quoting than discover it at hour six.
What stretches a visit
- Bathroom count
- The largest factor. Grout, glass and fixtures are slow, and every bathroom has all three.
- Years since the last deep clean
- Non-linear. Two years of buildup is well over twice the work of one.
- Hard-water severity
- Heavy mineral deposits need repeat passes rather than one.
- Clutter on surfaces
- Every object moved and replaced is time not spent cleaning. The one factor entirely within your control.
- Pets
- Hair in upholstery seams, floor edges and vent covers takes real time to remove properly.
- Add-ons
- Inside the oven, inside the refrigerator and blinds each add substantially.
Why more cleaners is not always faster
Two cleaners in a 900 square foot apartment get in each other's way, and the visit does not halve. In a large house it is different — the work zones properly and a team of three or four is genuinely faster and produces a more consistent result than one person over a long day, because nobody is tired by the last bedroom.
The threshold sits somewhere around 2,500 square feet or three-plus bathrooms. Below that, a small team is usually right. Above it, we schedule more people. Preston Hollow covers how large-home visits are organized.
Planning your day around it
- You do not need to be present for the whole visit — most people leave a key or a code
- If you are working from home, tell us which room and we will sequence around it and return at the end
- Pets are easier on everyone if they have a room to themselves for the visit
- Floors need time to dry, so plan not to walk through mopped areas immediately
- The walkthrough at the end takes ten minutes and is worth being there for on a first deep clean
